IBAN checker

Check that an Azerbaijani IBAN is valid: length, check digits, bank code and account number. Enter the BIC (SWIFT) code too, and its match with the IBAN is checked as well.

Spaces and hyphens are allowed - they are ignored.

Structure of an Azerbaijani IBAN

An IBAN is an international account number: the country code, check digits, bank code and the account number at the bank in one line.

  1. AZCountry codecharacters 1-2
  2. 48Check digits (mod-97)characters 3-4
  3. CTREBank codecharacters 5-8
  4. 0000 0000 0000 0001 4001Account numbercharacters 9-28

The check runs in your browser using the mod-97 algorithm of the ISO 13616 (IBAN) standard; nothing is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters does an Azerbaijani IBAN have?

28: the country code AZ, 2 check digits, the 4-letter bank code and a 20-character account number. For example, AZ48 CTRE 0000 0000 0000 0001 4001.

If the check passes, does the account definitely exist?

No. The mod-97 check only shows that the IBAN is written without errors: it catches almost all accidental typos. Only the bank can confirm whether the account is open and who owns it.

How should the BIC (SWIFT) code match the IBAN?

Letters 5-6 of the BIC are the country code and must equal the first two letters of the IBAN (AZ for Azerbaijan). The first 4 letters of the BIC usually equal the bank code in the IBAN.
